ABOUT

Matthias is a multi-award-winning film, TV, and branded-content writer/director. He made his feature directing debut in 2012 with StudioCanal’s horror-comedy Cockneys vs. Zombies, which premiered at London’s FrightFest and has since become a British cult classic. He then helmed the martial-arts actioner Enter the Warriors Gate, starring Dave Bautista and written by Robert Mark Kamen and Luc Besson for EuropaCorp. For his first television project, he directed the first season of HBO Max’s adventure romp Theodosia with Cottonwood Media. Recently, he released the thriller Little Bone Lodge, starring Joely Richardson, to great critical acclaim, and has been working non-stop since: shooting the first block of the superhero show Gifted, featuring Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter) for the BBC; lead-directing and executive-producing Gnomes, featuring Asa Butterfield (Sex Education) for Stan and ZDF; and in post production for the rollercoaster survival thriller Invertigo featuring rising superstar Inde Navarrette and Academy Award nominee Tim Roth, for Capstone and Lionsgate.

With a love for all things escapist, the German filmmaker is currently packaging the contained thriller Best Enemies with Parallel 42; developing The Kelly Gang, a London-set heist thriller with SHUK, and prepping the wellness retreat horror Transformation with Stone Village Films.

Matthias is also a celebrated commercials director. He has directed two Super Bowl spots, won a Golden Lion, several Clios, and many other awards, and created visionary campaigns for brands including Toyota, Sony, and Chanel. He is known in the advertising community as a world-builder and VFX guru. In 2018, he collaborated with Adidas and Parley to create Dive, a powerful documentary short that debuted at SXSW and World Oceans Day as part of a noble effort to promote ocean conservation.

A true global citizen, Matthias currently splits his time between London and Los Angeles.
